COMMUNITY SEATING

For the 2012/13 Season, LA Opera is introducing a new seating program that will enable us to increase our service to students, low-income senior centers and underserved community groups. Carefully selected groups will be able to experience opera at a significantly reduced price and, at times, even at no cost.

Hundreds of tickets will be set aside from our orchestra for every performance to accommodate these special groups and supplement the extensive education and community outreach we already provide. These tickets will not be available for sale to the public.

HOW IT WORKS

Community Seating is one of several new initiatives as part of LA Opera's ongoing community outreach. It is managed through our Education Department with the help of a volunteer committee who help select recipient organizations for the program.

Blocks of tickets will be awarded to schools, colleges, or non-profit organizations only. No individual or family applications accepted. Tickets will be awarded based on availability and need to the following groups:

  • Full-time, for-credit college students ages 18 and up. May be accompanied by an instructor/administrator, limit one per 10 students.
  • Underserved students (ages 9-17), adults or senior citizens. Students must be accompanied by enough responsible adults to ensure their good behavior. No more than one adult per 4 students is allowed, unless your agreement specifies otherwise.

Organizations wishing to participate in the program should fill out the Community Seating application below. Applications will then be reviewed by our Education and Community Programs department and the volunteer Community Relations committee. Filling out an application does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Seats will be granted based on the availability of seats, the needs of the organization and the population served. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Be sure to include accurate contact information so someone may be reached in case we have any questions or so that we can contact you with the results of your application.

If you would like to donate to the program, or sponsor a specific group that meets LA Opera's Community Seating qualifications, please call us at 213.972.3157.
