A person is never too young or too old for great stories set to gorgeous music. LA Opera offers an array of family programs that make opera performances accessible to all ages. From the Saturday Mornings at the Opera performances for very young children in the Eva and Marc Stern Grand Hall, to family opera packages and discounted prices for youth ages 9-17 at all opera performances, to special opportunities for partnering senior centers and senior rush tickets…LA Opera will help create your family's greatest memories.
In 2011, LA Opera introduced half-price tickets for children 9-17 years of age as part of our Domingo Family Program. Now we introduce special family packages to make it easier and more affordable for you to introduce your children to opera.
Our Family Package operas are on Thanksgiving weekend and Easter, so we will have themed activities for families to enjoy while learning more about opera. Except for Season Subscribers (see below) who are seated immediately, seating for Family Packages will begin on May 1, 2012, although you may purchase the package at any time.
FAMILY PACKAGES INCLUDE:
Four tickets to a select performance of both Madame Butterfly and Cinderella.
Four invitations to meet the cast at a post-performance reception.
Exclusive, holiday-themed pre-performance activities designed for families.

FEBRUARY 4, 2012 - THE MAGIC DREAM
This lighthearted show by Lee Holdridge and Richard Sparks is a wildly imaginative and engaging celebration of Mozart's opera, The Magic Flute. Young Pam grew up listening to The Magic Flute with her grandparents, but never understood what was happening in the story. Pam invites us to explore the opera in her creatively, re-imagined version in which she has cast her friends as the colorful characters of The Magic Flute. Together, the group of friends learns that music and your own imagination can take you anywhere.

Opera always begins with a story and LA Opera celebrates the power of the story and the joy of music through its hugely successful Opera Tales productions. Working in partnership with the County of Los Angeles Public Library, LA Opera has developed this fun, high-energy show, as part of our Library Project, that tours to various County Libraries for free family performances in May 2012. The show features five professional opera singers as the "opera pals" who perform some of the musical moments from favorite opera stories. Opera Tales is a perfect and easy way to introduce young audiences to the exhilaration of story and music wedded together.
Original funding for this program provided by Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, 4th District.
