SEAMSTERS – COSTUME SHOP
Los Angeles Opera Costume Shop has openings for experienced Seamsters.
Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years experience in a professional costume shop or garment factory, knowledge of garment construction and alteration, hand and machine sewing skills, the ability to meet tight deadlines, work independently and as part of a team, and must possess excellent communication skills. DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR
Los Angeles Opera has an excellent opportunity for a Tessitura Administrator. The Tessitura Administrator will provide end-user support on all lines of business applications including: Tessitura, Tstats, EpiServer CMS, Microsoft Office 2010 and Adobe Acrobat.
The candidate will need to be able to work in a consortium environment while giving both front end support to end users, as well as back end support to the Database Administrator. This person will also need to be able to prioritize tasks in a high volume position while maintain a helpful and professional outlook.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Administer Tessitura for the consortium which includes adding users, setting user security, running reports, changing configuration values and updating data.
Responsible for SQL Database for the consortium which includes tracking all jobs, ensuring that nightly backups run, writing stored procedures, assisting with report writing with SSRS and helping to ensure data integrity
Help Desk for EpiServer CMS system for the consortium
Maintain a test system for training and testing that closely mirrors the production system.
QUALIFICATIONS
Tessitura V10.1 and V11, Tstats, and RMA preferred
Knowledge of Windows Server 2008R2, MS SQL 2008R2, SSRS, Microsoft Office 2010, IIS7 and Visual Studio 2008 and 2010

Education Programs Assistant (part-time)
LA Opera seeks an Education Programs Assistant for its award-winning Education and Community Programs department. Reporting to the Education Manager, the Education Programs Assistant will provide general administrative support and coordination for the Opera's education and community programs staff. This position will also assist in the planning and implementation of education programs, projects and events.
Qualified candidates will be highly organized and have a degree or significant experience in arts, arts management or arts education. Applicants will have worked extensively in Word, Excel and Outlook, and have experience with database applications. Qualified candidates will also demonstrate the ability to attend to detail in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment and have strong written and oral communication skills, as well as an aptitude for interacting well with the public. Bilingual a plus but not required.
This is a part-time position, offering approximately 29 hours per week. There is some flexibility in setting hours during the business week; however, the work schedule may vary and will include some nights and weekends.

INSTITUTIONAL GIVING OFFICER/GRANTS WRITER
The Los Angeles Opera seeks an Institutional Giving Officer/Grants Writer who will be responsible for managing a portfolio of Foundation, Corporate and Government donors and prospects, and implementing strategies to renew current donors and solicit new contributors. Tasks include preparing Foundation grant proposals, corporate sponsorship solicitations, and narrative and financial reports. INSTITUTIONAL GIVING ASSISTANT
LA Opera seeks an Institutional Giving Assistant in its Development Department to provide support for all aspects of the organization's Foundation, Corporate and Government fundraising efforts. Specifically, the Assistant will help to compile grants and reporting including narratives, editing, and support materials; maintain grants and corporate sponsorship tracking and calendar; help to implement corporate fulfillment; assist in the creation of corporate sponsorship presentations; draft correspondence, spreadsheets and other documents; assist with fundraising events, and provide support as needed to the Development department and the company's daily operations.
The Institutional Giving Assistant is expected to interact with the public, donors, and foundation/corporate representatives. The successful candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be highly organized and self-motivated, and have a professional demeanor. A Bachelors degree is required as well as strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and database software (Tessitura highly desired). Ability to edit videos a plus. The position requires some late evenings and weekends.

Notice of General Auditions
Education & Community Programs Department
LA Opera's Education and Community Programs Department will hold general auditions on Thursday, May 31, 2012 and Friday, June 1, 2012 each day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Department is seeking soloists for its acclaimed outreach programs, including in-school opera residencies, touring community recitals/demonstration performances, as-well-as school assemblies.
Artists should be prepared to sing at least one musical theater selection (in English) and two contrasting arias. Pieces should showcase personality and clear, natural diction. Fifteen-minute audition appointments will be scheduled in advance and will take place at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Music Center (no walk-ins, please).

Orchestra
Auditions for orchestra musicians are held only when positions become available. Orchestra position announcements will be posted here, and in two publications - "International Musician" and "Overture."
Chorus
Chorus auditions for the 2012-2013 season are complete. Please look here for information regarding the 2013-2014 season auditions near the end of December or the beginning of January. Only one round of auditions are held per season. Auditions are by invitation only. Professional singers with training and experience with operatic literature and performance are encouraged to apply.
Audition process
Singers will be asked to prepare two selections from the standard operatic repertory. Both pieces should be in different languages and both should be in languages other than English. An accompanist will be provided for all auditions. Singers may also be tested on their musicianship (sight reading and tonal memory, i.e. the ability to sing back a melody played on the piano) and lyric diction in French, German and Italian. At the audition, singers will also be required to submit paperwork on their availability (based on a preliminary rehearsal and performance schedule) and their ability to fulfill special requirements (as listed for each production).
Dancers
Dance auditions are held on an "as needed" basis for productions which include roles for dancers. Dance audition announcements will be posted here. Dancers wishing to receive audition information by email should submit a picture, resume and cover letter to dancersubmissions@laopera.com. Submissions will be kept on file and dancers will be contacted about applicable audition opportunities.
Supernumeraries
Auditions for supernumeraries ("extras") are held on an "as needed" basis for productions which include parts for non-speaking, non-singing performers. LA Opera seeks supernumeraries with varying levels of experience according to the needs of the production. While some people who work as supernumeraries are professional actors or specialty performers (e.g. jugglers, acrobats, stilt walkers, actors trained in stage combat), others are opera enthusiasts who have no previous acting or performing experience but enjoy being onstage.
Supernumerary audition announcements will be posted here, and may also be posted on casting websites such as "LA Casting" and "Actors Access."

Submissions will be kept on file and performers will be contacted about applicable auditions.
There are numerous, fun ways in which you can become involved with LA Opera as a volunteer. The Opera League of Los Angeles, the primary volunteer support organization for LA Opera, and its members work with LA Opera staff on a wide variety of programs including the Opera Prep program, Teacher Training sessions, Saturday Mornings at the Opera, Community Educators, and much more.
In addition to volunteer opportunities, the Opera League of Los Angeles offers its members informative educational programs including seminars and many social activities focused on opera with the aim on expanding the appreciation of opera throughout Greater Los Angeles and the surrounding counties.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS INTERN (LA County Arts Internship Program) - Summer 2012
The Community Programs Intern will assist in all aspects of Community Programs and will specifically be involved with the production of public performances and the administration of outreach programs. This includes: 1) further-developing our new College Advisory Committee by researching and creating an inventory of college opera outreach programs and helping to create a network of such programs; 2) the production and presentation of Free Community Concerts at various locations; 3) participating in the administering the 9-week Volunteer Community Educators training program; 4) serving as an integral team member of the 2-week, intensive youth Opera Camp; 5) gathering all the County interns in Downtown LA for several events where the students can socialize and share experiences throughout the summer.
This is a 10-week, paid internship for full-time undergraduate college students or graduating seniors. It is a full-time position (40 hrs/week) and is paid a $3,500 stipend.
Eligibility for LA County Arts Internship Program: (There are no exceptions to these eligibility requirements.)
Student eligibility for this position is limited to currently?enrolled, undergraduate college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County. Students must have completed at least one semester of college by June 1, 2012 or will complete their undergraduate degree by September 1, 2011 in order to be eligible to participate. Students who have already earned a BA, BS or a higher degree are not eligible.
Students who have previously participated in the Los Angeles County Arts Internship Program are not eligible to participate a second time.
Students invited to participate in the program must provide a copy of their college transcripts verifying undergraduate enrollment.
This internship is sponsored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. 74 undergraduate interns will participate in the program this year at 74 performing, presenting, and literary nonprofit arts organizations and municipal arts agencies throughout LA County. In addition to their full-time 10 week paid internship, interns will participate in several educational events as part of the program, which are funded by the Getty Foundation. The educational events are designed to provide interns with a broader perspective of the vibrant arts and cultural landscape of the County. RESEARCH INTERNSHIP (CREDIT ONLY)
The LA Opera seeks a Research Intern who will report to LA Opera's Richard Seaver Music Director, James Conlon. The intern will help research and assemble an annotated chronology of Maestro Conlon's career for use in company promotions and publications. Internship activities will include communicating with the publications staffs at opera companies, symphony orchestras and schools in the US and throughout the world. Research activities may also include compiling materials such as recording lists, critical reviews, and work samples.
Qualified candidates must receive credit from an accredited college or university for the internship. This is a non-paid position. Qualified candidates will have a highly disciplined work ethic, excellent communications skills, and superb research skills with meticulous attention to detail. Internship activities will include providing administrative support to outreach initiatives including the In-School Opera, Opera Prep, the community opera at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, management of Volunteer Community Educators and Library Project, and Senior Center Dress Rehearsal. The intern will attend planning and production meetings and take notes in order to observe the process of producing operas and arts education programs. Some telephone usage, filing, record keeping, and database management are also involved. Schedule may include some nights and weekends.

Responsibilities will include creating and editing videos and podcasts for the web and ensuring that materials meet the Marketing/PR goals of the Company.

Artistic Administration Intern (Credit Only)
LA Opera seeks an Artistic Administration Intern to plan the logistics for guest artists coming to Los Angeles Opera for productions in 2012. The intern will perform a research project to help secure foreign artist work visas. Research activities will include compiling each artist's materials such as recording lists, critical reviews, and work samples. Interns may be in touch with the artists' managers, other opera companies or even the artists themselves to secure the necessary support materials for the visa applications. The intern may also research travel and housing options and prepare arrival information for these artists. The intern will report to LA Opera's Artist Services Manager.
Qualified candidates must receive credit from an accredited college or university for the internship. This is a non-paid position. Graduates may be eligible as long as college credit can be received. Production Intern (Credit only)
Los Angeles Opera has an exciting internship opportunity for a student interested in arts administration. The Production Intern will assist with a variety of organizational projects including updating current artist databases and interfacing with the IT department and Manager of Chorus, Dancers and Supers to implement a new master database. Activities will also include reviewing and organizing general submissions from performers, updating Company production records, and assisting with the organization and running of departmental auditions.
