THE PLÁCIDO DOMINGO 40th ANNIVERSARY GALA CONCERT
—IN LANDMARK THEATRES MAY 11

On November 17, 1967, a young singer on tour in Los Angeles with the New York City Opera took to the stage of the new Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, to sing the title role in Ginastera's Don Rodrigo. Few people in the audience that evening might have known the name of Plácido Domingo, but the Spanish singer would eventually become "the greatest tenor in history" (BBC Music Magazine). To celebrate his extraordinary achievements and commemorate the 40th anniversary of his debut on the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion stage, LA Opera presented a special one-night-only event on April 18, THE PLÁCIDO DOMINGO 40th ANNIVERSARY GALA CONCERT.
Domingo performed selections from many of his signature roles, including Otello, Siegmund (Die Walküre) and Gherman (The Queen of Spades), and was joined onstage by internationally renowned soprano Patricia Racette, who performed several arias and duets with Domingo including selections from Otello, West Side Story and The Merry Widow. The evening was conducted by LA Opera's Music Director, James Conlon, who led the LA Opera Orchestra.
This once-in-a-lifetime event will be shown in 22 Landmark Theatres nationwide on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11 at 2 PM.
